The Mergent Dividend Achievers50™ Index is the top 50 highest yielding companies of the Mergent Broad Dividend Achievers™ Index. The Broad index keeps track of companies that have increased their dividends for at least 10 years in a row. But it's possible for a company to raise its dividends for 10 or more consecutive years, yet still pay relatively low dividends. Therefore, the Dividend Achievers 50 Index is the 50 companies out of the Broad Index which have the highest yields.

Mergent Dividend Achievers 50 Index

This index is calculated using a yield weighting methodology and is published by the AMEX (American Stock Exchange) under ticker symbol DAY. Also, the 50 companies do not include Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). Its weighting methodology is by yield, and it is rebalanced quarterly.

All Mergent dividend achievers have raised the stock dividends paid to shareholders every year for at least 10 years.

Because these companies have the highest yields, their dividends are not growing at a rate as high as other companies in the Broad Index. There is still a trade-off between growth and yield. However, their dividends do increase each year, or they would not be in the Dividend Achievers to begin with.
