Essex Property Trust is a fully integrated REIT that specializes in providing commercial apartment buildings. Essex began in 1971 when George M Marcus started the Essex Property Corporation. It went public in 1994 with just 16 multifamily communities. Its New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol is ESS. Michael J. Schall is now president and CEO.
ESS acquires, develops, redevelops and manages multifamily apartment communities in "supply-constrained" markets. That is, where they can easily keep rents high -- which is good for shareholders.
Essex now owns 133 apartment communities, with 26,790 units. They're concentrated on the West Coast -- Southern California, the San Francisco Bay area, and the metropolitan Seattle area. The company is based in Palo Alto California.
Essex Property Trust Apartment Properties Include:
Alderwood Park, Bunker Hill Towers, Alpine Country Apartments, Brookside Oaks, Alpine Village Apartments, Bristol Commons, Anchor Village, Brighton Ridge, Avondale at Warner Center, Bridle Trails, Barkley Apartments, Bridgeport Apartment Homes, Bel Air Apartments, Brentwood Apartments, Belmont Station, Boulevard Apartment Homes, Belmont Terrace Apartments, Bonita Cedars Apartments, Bluffs II Apartments, Camarillo Oaks, Harvest Park, Park Hill at Issaquah, Woodside Village, San Marcos, Meadowwood, Salmon Run at Perry Creek, Mountain View, Mariners Place, Linden Square, Le Parc, Palisades, Marina City Club, Mariner Cove, Mariners Place, Maple Leaf Apartments, Fountain Court, Fountain Park at Playa Vista, Morning Run Apartments, Magnolia Lane, Mission Hills Apartments, Mill Creek at Windemere, Hampton Court, Hampton Place, Hidden Valley, Highridge, Woodside Village, Windsor Ridge, Regency Tower, Sammamish View Apartments, Pinehurt Apartments, Monterra Del Mar, Mirabella, MIra Monte Apartment Homes, and Wilshire Promenade.
Essex Property Trust is therefore a real estate investment trust that will profit so long as the three major cities on the West Coast of the U.S. are prosperious, but it lacks geographical diversity.
