Macerich Company is a REIT that concentrates on major retail shopping centers in high growth areas of the U.S., especially the West Coast, the New York City metropolitan area and suburban Washington D. C. Its New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol is MAC. They have 72 retail shopping centers with over 76 million square feet leasable.
Mace Siegel founded Macerich in 1964, and is still Chairman of the Board. The first development was in Ames, Iowa. Headquarters are in Santa Monica California, and regional offices in Phoenix, Dallas and Rochester. It had its IPO in 1994. It acquired Westcor in 2002 and Wilmorite in 2004.
