Land Securities Group PLC (LSE: LAND) is the largest commercial property company and Real Estate Investment Trust or UK-REIT in the United Kingdom. They own 26 shopping centres, 20 retail parks, a total of 19.4 million square feet of retail space. They also own a lot of office and hotel property in London. And they own twenty-nine Ibis and Novotel (brand names owned by Accor) hotels.
Land Securities started out in 1944, when Harold Samuel bought Land Securities Investment Trust Limited. It owned some government stock and three houses in Kensington. However, it rapidly became one of the largest land companies in the U.K. and has held that position.
They switched to REIT status effective with January 1, 2007. They're in the FTSE 100 Index. They own and manage over 29 million square feet of commercial real estate property. Their corporate headquarters are in London UK. Francis W. Salway is the Chief Executive.
